Tim Hortons Recalls Lids on Travel Mugs

Travel Mugs January 23, 2003. Oakville, Ontario: Anyone with a Tim Hortons 15-oz Stainless Steel Travel Mug sold between October 2002 to January 2003 is being asked to bring their Travel Mug back to their nearest Tim Hortons store to be exchanged for a new Lid. While only a few incidents have been reported, the company has learned of a manufacturing defect at the manufacturer's facility which may result in some lids lifting slightly from the body of the mug, and could possibly cause injury from hot liquid leaking.

****This recall notice applies only to Tim Hortons 15 oz. Stainless Steel Travel Mugs with the distributor's name "Thermo-Serv®" stamped on the bottom of the mug.****

"We want to be proactive and replace all of the Lids on all of these particular Travel Mugs that we've sold, even if the customer hasn't had a problem", said Patti Jameson, Vice-President, Corporate Communications. "We are also asking our customers not to use their Travel Mugs until they have made the Lid switch at our stores", added Jameson.

Customer Recall Procedures:

  1. Bring the 15-oz Stainless Steel Travel Mug (with "Thermo-Serv®" stamped on bottom of mug) to any Tim Hortons store AS OF FEBRUARY 1st 2003.
  2. The store will give the customer one of the NEW Lids in exchange for the OLD Lid.
  3. For further information, customers can call (toll free): 1-888-601-1616.
  4. Should a customer prefer a full refund on their 15-oz Stainless Steel Travel Mug (with "Thermo-Serv®" stamped on bottom of mug), they should bring their mug to their nearest Tim Hortons store.
  5. Customers are asked NOT TO USE THEIR TRAVEL MUGS UNTIL THE LID HAS BEEN EXCHANGED.

    "We certainly apologize for the inconvenience this Lid Recall will cause our customers, and we thank them for their patience in this matter", stated Jameson.

    The recall is being done as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and comfort of the company's customers.
