Tim Hortons supports environmental leadership among Ontario youth through the Envirothon Program

Ontario Envirothon, the team sport for environmental smarts, reaches over 5,000 students each year

Toronto, ON, April 14, 2008 - The Ontario Forestry Association proudly announces that Tim Hortons is the lead corporate sponsor of the 2008 Ontario Envirothon Competition. Each year the Ontario Envirothon program reaches over 5,000 students where the top 120 students from across Ontario earn the chance to compete for the title of Ontario Envirothon Champions. This year's event will be held at the Tim Horton Children's Foundation at Tim Horton Onondaga Farms in St. George, Ontario from May 7-10.

"Tim Hortons has a long and proud history of responsible citizenship.  We work with all of our stakeholders to drive toward environmental best practices," said Nick Javor, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Tim Hortons and Tim Horton Children's Foundation. "We are very pleased to support this worthwhile learning experience for the environmental leaders of the future."

Envirothon is a unique team competition that rewards students for learning about the natural world around them.

"Envirothon gives students the opportunity to explore nature and compete in outdoor competitions to test their environmental knowledge," said Carla Grant, Executive Director of the OFA, the organization responsible for the Ontario Envirothon Program.  "Students propose solutions for complex problems facing our environment and learn how they can make changes in their own lives to help lessen environmental impacts."

The students at Envirothon will take part in a truly green event. Beyond the competition, the students and their teachers will also carpool to and from the event, conserve water and energy, reuse and recycle event materials and take part in local environmental improvement projects.  The objective of Envirothon is more than learning about the environment, it shows students how they can make positive change and how to lead by example.
